Advert Deconstruction 2.

Advert Deconstruction

There aren’t any stereotypes being represented in imagery, as there aren’t images of people. But the whole concept is stereotypical to the genre that this band falls into. The back ground is a dirty colour which often occurs on this genres adverts or album colours. I feel this connotes the feeling of not caring and an element of freedom and lack of manufactured influence.

The advert is in colour. The colours used are uniform to the advert; red is used through out along with black text. This is a very common colour code for adverts that are associated with music of this genre. Red connotes a feel of fear, anger and being alert or alerted; this is just like the style of music this band plays. The music is about things that are feared, or make people angry, e.g. girls and loving them ECT. Black represents the dark time and subjects in the lyrics of there songs. Also black is used just to make the text clear and easy to read.

The leaves on the edge of some parts of the advert are just in the ad and have been cropped to just appear on the edge. They are a deep red and have lots of detail making them stand out. The leaves make the ad look like it has been found amongst leaves on the ground. This denotes the title ‘Dirt’. The advert looks as though it is found on the floor like dirty is often found.

The leaves and the flowers contrast the word ‘dirt’, dirt is a horrible thing and isn’t pretty, and to then render the word with something that is deemed as pretty and angelic, flowers, is a strong way to show a contrast.

This advert is addressing anyone who likes this particular band, and anyone whole would be interested in purchasing this bands music. The advert addresses every type of person to. From people that buy hard copies of music on CD to anyone who uses iTunes and such computer software to download digital versions of artists music.

The background of the advert is an off white colour, almost dirty of tea stained in effect. The background has lines in it too. Some are more definite than others giving the effect of crinkled paper. This effect denotes a sense of wear, caused over time or constant use. I feel this links with the word ‘Kids’ as children use things that then become worn and dirty.

The advert promises the viewer/ audience that the music will be out to purchase on the date stated on the advert near the bottom. It also promises that the hard copy and digital copies are available to purchase to. Many promises are made by this advert, plus a promise to receive signed versions of the CD if preordered, this is very good to get some sales before release and therefore entices the potential customers.

The power of this advert comes from the title of the music. This is because the word used for the title, ‘Dirt’ is a very strong word in its self. This word can mean and denote many different things from the literal meaning of the earth’s surface, to being unclean. Also the meaning is slightly powerful but as this word is larger than all the other text and has a brighter colour it makes this word stand out from everything else, which therefore gives it it’s power.

This advert may appear in various music magazines that are based on this genre of music. Such as NME, Kerrang and Q. this is perfect for this advert to be noticed by its target audience, as the target audience would like this type of music, which is the main feature in these magazines. Also this advert may appear on the bands website too as this is a modern way to advertise music as the Internet is becoming more and more popular.
